April’s Wish List

Hourglass Modernist Palette in Infinity – Would you just look at that! This beautiful artist-inspired eyeshaddow palette contains a seamless colour transition of beautiful taupe and bronze shades. Each palette contains five richly pigmented shades in a range of finishes from matte to shimmer. Really I’d love to have one of each shade range… But Infinity really floats my boat.

The Shine Brush – The Wet Brush – The ultimate mane saving tool, this brush effortlessly detangles dry or wet hair without stretching or breaking. Apparently, the long ball-tipped bristles are ideal for stimulating circulation near the scalp, to better feed your follicles and encourage new growth, and… the ‘Mongolian Boar’ bristles help deliver a lustrous polish. I’m desperate for a new brush and… this is it.

Laura Mercier Silk Créme Moisturising Photo Edition Foundation – Now I’m very aware that I don’t need another foundation in my life. But I’ve read so many rave reviews about this one that it just needs to be mine. This photo-ready foundation creates a flawless, long-wearing canvas with a natural luminous finish. The photo-ready, natural luminous finish is ideal for video, photography and special events. Perfect for graduation I think!

Bobbi Brown Eye Blender Brush – This award winning brush is the top of my ‘brush’ wish list. It expertly blends all eyeshadows together, softening any harsh lines and edges. The nature of this brush means it can also be used to set concealer. Plus it may just be the softest thing that I have ever felt, I can often be found swirling it over my hands at a Bobbi Brown counter… just for the very fun of it.

Charlotte Tilbury Rock’n’Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Eye Cheat – Inspired by the ultimate, rock chick ‘bedroom eyes’, Charlotte Tilbury has created a revolutionary, no-nonsense liquid-eye pencil: it has the silky smooth glide of a liquid liner with the soft, sooty, pigment-rich result of a kohl. The Eye Cheat shade is the perfect nude eye brightener to be used in the inner waterline to widen and enliven the eyes.

Whistles Sekka Stripe Drape Top – Featuring a high collar rounded neck and sculpted arm sleeves, this asymmetric top is perfect for a standout monochrome look. I love the pattern and draping involved in this piece and would love to add it to my wardrobe. A girl can dream.

Wallis Berry Leather Shoe Boot – Please can someone tell me where I can find these boots in stock?! PLEASE. Sold out everywhere and my heart breaks a little bit each time I visit a wallis store and they aren’t there. This shoe boot has an asymmetric cut which is sexy and flattering on the foot. In mixed materials of suede and leather in this seasons must have colour berry, these shoes are a gorgeous finishing touch to an evening look. I need these in my life.

Chloe Clare Medium Leather Shoulder Bag in Marshmallow Grey – Clare Waight Keller’s signature namesake bag has had a compact makeover with this tri-tone style. Still sleek and practical, this smooth and textured navy and grey leather piece is perfect. Perfect for me.

Is there anything that you’re currently lusting after?

Bobbi’s Killin’ It

This year Bobbi Brown is killing it with her eyeshadow palettes. I. Need. Them. All.

After having a swatch and try session today I’m happy to say that all shades stand up to Bobbi’s usual standards. Perfect.

Perhaps these are something to add to your christmas list?

Warm Eye PaletteLimited Edition – This palette has everything a girl needs to make her eyes stand out. Housed in this sleek compact is 4 matte shades, all of which deliver buildable, richly pigmented colour: Bone – an off white, Malted – a soft grey brown, Sable – a medium brown and Espresso – a dark chocolate brown. The other two shades in the palette are Champagne Quartz – a metallic eye shadow and Gold – a sparkle eye shadow, that both allow you to add a wash of shimmer to any look.
This palette would be top of my christmas list, it’s perfect for anyone who wants to create a range of warm and sultry eye looks. These silky matte, metallic and sparkle powder shadows are wearable and buildable in shades that deliver a range of subtle to sultry eye looks. Sweep the lightest shade from lashline to browbone. Next, dust any of the medium shades on the lower lid; if you choose to layer more than one shadow on the lower lid, start with a matte shadow then top with one of the sparkly or metallic shadows. Use the darkest shade to line eyes.

Warm Glow Eye PaletteLimited Edition – This gorgeous Eye Palette has everything you need to make eyes sparkle with rich, bronzy metallics, rose golds and deep browns. It comes in a gorgeous faux-croc case that you’ll love to pull out at parties. Ideal for the woman who wants to bring subtle, sultry Hollywood glamour to her look this Christmas with a range of confident, glam eye looks.

Hand-picked by Bobbi to flatter a wide range of skin tones, this palette is all you need for the Christmas party circuit. Palette includes matte shadows in Flesh – a warm pale cream, Beige – a warm beige, and Rich Caviar – a rich black brown; Metallic Eye Shadow in Golden Pink, Rose, Velvet Bronze and Golden Bronze; Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Bonfire and Sparkle Eye Shadow in Gold.

Sweep the lightest shade from lashline to browbone. Next, dust any of the medium shades on the lower lid; if you choose to layer more than one shadow on the lower lid, start with a matte shadow.

Smokey Nudes Eye PaletteLimited Edition – The star of Bobbi’s Smokey Nudes Collection is this versatile eye shadow palette that creates smokey eye looks that work for both day and night — simply layer the shadows until you get the intensity you want. Featuring eight mix-and match shades in soft matte, sparkle and metallic finishes for looks that are subtle, yet sexy in all the right ways.

Just right for any woman who wants a wearable take on the smokey eye (from subtle to very sexy) — this palette is perfect for beginners as well as pros. This palette features shades that suit every skin tone, and these silky powder formulas create a natural look that’s buildable — all in limited edition mirror compact.

When layering the eye shadows featured in the Smokey Nudes Eye palette, start with a classic Bobbi eye — light allover shadow, medium lid shadow, dark liner and then layer Sparkle Eye Shadow on top.

Bobbi Brown Nude on Nude

If there’s anything that can draw me in it’s a palette. Nude on Nude is the perfect palette for a nude lover like myself, encompassing 12 blendable, buttery eyeshadows that work individually and paired together.

It’s a palette with twelve buildable shadows in three finishes for the ultimate sultry nude eye look. It features the best of Bobbi’s nude shadows in three tones (light, medium, dark) and three finishes (matte, metallic, sparkle) to enable endless combinations suitable for all skintones.

The shades are able to stand on their own but yet they’re buildable enough to get maximum intensity when you want it. There are five matte eyeshadows in Ivory, Naked, Birch, Truffle, Espresso, four metallic eye shadows in Golden Pink, Bare, Smoky Topaz, Golden Bronze and three sparkle eye shadows in Chiffon, Graphite, Gold.

It’s a beauty. In the US and the UK, the palette is available at major department stores and if you can’t resist it, I can only add that I’m over the moon with the pigmentation and the endless possibilities this gorgeous palette has inside. I will enjoy this for a very long time – and will definitely get my use out of it!

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadows are where it’s at – available in a range of shades for lids, lining eyes, and defining brows. The silky, matte formula glides on smoothly and blends easily. You can either get them in a sleek, flip-top compact that can be used individually or you can assemble them into Customisable Palettes (which are sold separately). I often peruse the BB counter and swatch the shadows all up my arm, secretly lusting after them all. It was only recently when I was feeling uber spendy that I decided to take the plunge and customise my own 3 shade palette – perfect for everyday.

I was, as ever, looking for a natural, brown toned trio that I could call on for everyday use. After swatching every single beige and brown toned shadow on the stand I finally make my decision and opted for (L-R) Bone – an off white, Cement – a grey beige, and Rich Brown – a deep warm brown.

Application tip – To create a modern eye, choose three Eye Shadow shades: light, medium, and dark. Apply LIGHT shade (like Bone or Ivory) all over lid using the Eye Sweep Brush. Dust MEDIUM shade (like Cement or Taupe) on lower lid, up to crease with the Eye Shadow Brush. Line eyes using a DARK shade (like Rich Brown or Mahogany) with the Eyeliner Brush. These can even be used to define brows by lightly applying shadow with the Eye Brow Brush.

Bobbi Brown comes up trumps with her shadow selection, a fantastic formula with the staying power to suit; I struggle to find any comparable offerings – so if eyeshadows what you’re after I recommend you hit up your nearest BB counter. You wont be disappointed.

Today’s post is a compilation of Bobbi Brown-centric products. BB is one of my favourite makeup brands that pleases across the board; from lipstick to concealer to brushes they always hit the mark. A recent BB counter visit left me feeling lighter in the pockets but happier in my heart and I feel like a haul is in order… Please Note: I’m holding back one special purchase for a later post, keep your eyes peeled!

Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush -This is the one that goes against my brush brief of duplicating things I already own as it reminds me very much so of Louise Young LY 34 Super Foundation Brush, but shorter and with a bit more firmness. I’ve been using that one for months now, and with no complaints, but with it on its last legs I thought it was time to try something new which is where this Bobbi Brown offering comes in. Dense enough to distribute full-on foundations, but with enough give to blend out a tinted moisturiser I’m impressed with this one so far. The short handle means it easier to travel with, plus I reckon this will be a good one for packing on the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural too.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand – The one concealer that I come back to time and time again. I dab on with my index finger and blend under my eyes and on the end of my sometimes Rudolph-ish red nose. This yellow-based concealer instantly camouflages dark circles and tired eyes. The new and improved formula is richer and creamier, so it goes on easy, blends smoothly and stays put. Plus it’s infused with skin conditioners to protect the delicate under-eye area. Your ideal shade of Creamy Concealer is one shade lighter than your foundation. So this was a must have repurchase.
Bobbi Brown Eyeliner Brush – For use with dark Eye Shadow shades, the Eye Liner Brush is perfectly shaped to create a precise and even line. Application wise: Dry – Pick up Eye Shadow with brush tip and tap off excess. Use smooth strokes to line lids close to base of lashes, going from inner to outer eye corner. Wet – Dampen brush and make an “x” in the Eye Shadow with the brush tip to pick up colour. Use smooth strokes to line lids close to base of lashes, going from inner to outer eye corner. I love this brush; I’m a big fan of using eyeshadows as liners and this one does the job perfectly. To find out what my favourite shadows for the job are you better keep your eyes peeled…

Stick With It

There’s a new craze in town – the eye shadow stick. Now I know they’ve been around for a while now, but in my house, they’ve been getting some serious love this month. The two in question are: By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection and the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Bark.

These two are the new killer duo and both work equally as well on their own as they do when they’re paired together.

By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection –

Swept over the lid, and quickly blended out you can achieve a sheer shimmer-tinted wash of deep bronzy taupe, but drawn on with just a bit of smudging in the corners and leaving the rest of the lid untouched it sets to a more opaque finish. On first application it’s beautiful, but the selling point here is its lasting power – this stuff really sticks around, come rain or shine. I prefer this as a smokey liner, Olsen style.

I’m planning my Ombre Blackstar mark II purchase and it’s currently between Misty Rock and Bronze Moon.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Bark –

A rich brown that is a perfect liner shade for a brown lover like myself. This is my go to product for an amped up eye look, applied with a MAC 239 it creates the ultimate smudged liner look that I love. This do-it-all formula glides on tug-free and can be used to shade, define, smoke up and highlight the eyes. Just like the By Terry offering, the longevity is something to shout about! They last up to 8 hours without creasing, flaking or fading. Perfect. Just swipe on and go!

For a budget buy, why not try the Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon in No.2 Brown? It’s a jumbo sized pencil with an extra soft formulation and a thicker application style to help achieve a gorgeous smokey eyeliner look. The colour is out-of-this-world gorgeous and has a subtle bronze shimmer running through it, and for £3.99… you can’t go wrong!

After seeing this post from Alix from I Covet Thee I was inspired to scribble down exactly what I reach for when I’m in preparation for a night out. Now.. let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, I’m not a wild party gal and a complete night owl. I couldn’t be more opposite. In fact I’ve often been known to say “I actually enjoy getting ready for night’s out, more than the night out itself”. Not a true student I know! But.. on the odd occasion I slip on my heels and sip on a few ‘Gin Jams’ with the girls, this is what I reach for…

Now much like Alix, my black uniform is adhered to on nights out, unless I’m feeling brave and crack out a coloured cami and blazer combo *how brave*, And I slip on my Whistles French 65 black pointed courts and grab my Statement Clutch Bag from Zara which is years old, and I love it. Job done.
Makeup wise, my foundation of choice is a toss up between Bobbi Brown Longwear Even Finish and NARS Sheer Glow (reviews of both can be found here) both imitate perfect skin and the NARS one is particularly good for photo situations as there’s no pesky SPF that might cause flash back and make me look like I have a ghost face. Teamed with the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer  and Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light the base is good to go.
For special occasions I am partial to sculpting myself out some cheekbones – and the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder is the one for the job, along with its sister the Celestial Powder for highlighting. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion is dusted lightly on my cheeks to pep things up a bit before I move on to eyes.
Depending on what look I’m going for the eyes are either played up or down. If my black outfit is in play then I usually opt for a killer red lip, and will reach for something like the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in either Red Square, or my old favourite Cruella – with this look I’ll dust some of the KA Celestial Powder all over my eyelids and the Sculpting powder in the crease, curl my lashes and then add a copious amount of the L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes mascara to seal the deal.
If I’m not feeling the red lip, I’ll opt for something bronzed and beautiful all over the lid like MAC Mulch with Espresso through the crease. Teamed also with lots of the aforementioned mascara and a wash of MAC Patisserie on the lips. All that’s left is a quick spritz of Diptyque Vetyverio, a deep musky scent with a hint of freshness which I will always be seen sporting in the evening and I’m ready to go!

What are your night out make up staples?

Foundation Fix

Finding the perfect foundation can often seem like an impossible task, but with so many fantastic formulas on the market today, I find it difficult to find one that I don’t love. So sit back and enjoy my top 5 that have stood the test of time and remain on rotation for all different occasions.

For a sheer coverage finishNARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser – (I wear Groendland) – £28.00 – from Space NK. An oil-free formula that provides light to medium coverage and sun protection while helping to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots. This is a hydrating offering, infused with Kopara from French Polunesia and mineral rich seawater to revive the skin, leaving it to appear visibly softer, smoother and brighter. When I wear this I feel like I’m glowing from within! The veil like coverage of this tinted moisturiser is perfect for every day wear for those who want to even everything out.

For a full coverage finishGiorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (I wear 5) – £34.50 – from Selfridges. Best. Foundation. Ever. Now theres a claim for you. This full coverage offering delivers like no other, theres no cake, no powdery particles, and it lasts all darn day. The finish is not too matte, nor too dewy, its just in-between the ‘perfect’ area of the spectrum. There are many positives to this product; there’s no SPF, so it’s perfect for flash photography situations, there are 21 shades(!) so theres no excuse for not finding the perfect one, the coverage is what you make of it – built up with a brush its perfect for night time, but its equally as lovely blended with fingers for a daytime approach and it’s virtually undetectable, giving that “I woke up like this” glow. Perfect

For an oily galsBobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation (I wear 3 Beige) – £30 – from Selfridges. This is the one for all day occasions and those hormone related oily and bad skin days. I use around two pumps for my whole face which imparts a light to medium coverage when applied with a brush. The website describes a matte finish, but I’d say this is sits in-between. Throughout the day it stars to get a bit more glowy, which I actually like. To round it up, It’s ridiculously long wearing, perfect for daytime to evening occasions, its medium to full coverage, and provides a satin like finish that imparts a subtle glow whilst keeping the grease at bay. What’s not to like?

For glow gettersNARS Sheer Glow Foundation (I wear Santa Fe) – £30.50 – from Space NK. A glowing, natural radiant finish foundation that imparts a sheer finish coverage that evens skin tone and brings the glow. This is one for the normal-to-dry and dry skin types, a transparent and weightless look with sheer to medium coverage. Warmed up and applied with fingers, a little goes a long way with this one. I find it best applied with fingers, but a built up version is equally as nice when it’s applied with a brush. Definitely one to try if you’re interested in a glowing look.

The tinted moisturiser highlighter hybrid – Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint (I mix Bronzed with Pearl) – £30 – from Cult Beauty. Luminizing… now that’s an understatement! This bad boy is dew-ey. This is light-to-medium foundation-like texture with some serious glow, Pearl could almost be mistaken for a highlighter. Now colour wise, I’m at a crossroads, and that’s because Jouer is a bit of an online-only offering in the UK at the moment meaning I couldn’t swatch and colour match. So… I got two. First I got Bronzed, which is perfect for me in the summer when I have a tan, in fact more often than not, that is still too light. But for the time when I don’t have a deep tan, it’s just a tad too dark, but mixed with Pearl, it’s a winner. In fact i’ve been know to mix Pearl with a lot of my aforementioned foundations to ramp up the glow!

Keep your eyes peeled to see if this five may become seven (YES – seven!) as I finally bit the bullet and got matched for the YSL Youth Liberator Foundation and CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation that everyone’s going crazy for. I’ll keep you updated.

Current Lip Lovin’

My Lips But Peachier –
Chanel Rouge Allure in No. 39 Precious
For a fresh faced look for spring, the most recent addition to my lipstick line up is this beauty from Chanel. This is the perfect pinky nude that I’ve found for my complexion. It oozes femininity and is a perfect luminous, satiny finish for every day wear. The ultra fine texture glides smoothly onto the lips without tugging and imparts a really nice subtle shimmer which is perfect for any occasion. There are no complaints from me.. this is the ultimate moisturising peachy nude that goes with everything.

My Lips But Better –
MAC Patisserie
I have a love hate relationship with this one. Described as a sheer creamy neutral pink it sounds right up my street, but sometimes it just isn’t. I think it’s the slightly larger glittery particles in it that I can occasionally become opposed to. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beauty, and more often than not it’s my go to shade, but on those days where my skin is playing up, it just doesn’t work. But I love the Lustre formula, it’s glossy and natural and stands the test of time. Patisserie offers a wash of colour that ties any makeup look together without making too much of a statement which is why I love it. Plus, it’s the perfect on the go lip colour, applied directly from the bullet it’s the perfect accompanying shade for any look.

My Lips But Deeper –
Bobbi Brown Rouge à Lèvres in No. 33 Brownie
This is a gorgeous pinky brown that I slick on nearly every day. A creamy, semi-matte lipstick that gives lips instant polish with an opaque rich coverage. It’s my favourite. Such a bold claim I know but it really is. It just adds that extra somethin’ somethin’ to every look. And boy does this stick around, I’ve started the day at 8am and managed to go a full 5 hours (including lunch) before needing to do a touch up. I go straight from the bullet with this, and find that one coat is more than enough to do me for the day.
