The Review

The Blue Night Oil

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

It’s only best to start this off with no secrets, I think it has to be noted that this face oil rocks a hefty price tag. £85 to be exact. And whilst for the Sunday Riley target audience the price is about right, for us average joe’s this would not be something I’d ever consider repurchasing. Even if it turned my into Blake Lively. But, this oil is very luxurious, and after testing I can report that I’ve seen good results. Just not good enough to warrant a repurchase.

Luna is a retinoid oil that aims to “reduce pore size, improve the appearance of damaged skin and help fight wrinkles”. Among the ingredients you can find the famous blue tansy that according to Into The Gloss is THE ingredient of 2015, avocado oil, grape seed oil and german chamomile. I was so so impressed reading the ingredient list because it is full of good oils and extracts but was kind of disappointed to see that the last two ingredients listed are actually colorants! I don’t feel Sunday Riley needs to add colorants to prove that there is indeed blue tansy in the oil. I really don’t know how to feel about the fact that I’m applying fake dye to my face and letting it sink in during the whole night. If it didn’t work as well as it does it would be a bigger problem for me.

I’ve seen some people complain about the smell but I actually really love it. For me it makes the whole process of massaging it into the skin much more enjoyable. Luna smell a little earthy, like wild flowers and I can catch the smell of the chamomile. I totally feel like this could be a LeLabo perfume, if you’re familiar with their earthy, musky scents. But let’s move on…

No matter your skin woes — dry, oily, or acne-prone — this stuff suits everyone and will quickly become a staple on your vanity.

I’ll come out and say that is one of the best retinoid products I’ve ever used in my life. I saw improvement in the size of my pores and the general aspect of my skin within the first couple of days of using it and it only got better after continuous use. I get lots of compliments about how firm, bright and well rested my skin looks. It makes my face a dream to apply makeup in the mornings and this is where I noticed the huge improvement in the appearance of my pores. I did not see foundation settling anywhere and I could almost see a beautiful “glow” that came from under my foundation.

So if you can afford to splash out on this oil then i’d say it’s definitely worth it! If not, then pop into your local SpaceNK and have a play with it instead! If you ask nicely, they might give you a sample!

The New Palette

As promised a review of my new MAC quad is here…

Wedge – a beautiful slightly warm mid tone taupe brown that is a perfect transition or crease shade. This is one for pale skinned people in my opinion, as it can come out a bit light and ashy when used in the crease on my skin tone. But still a good definition shadow.

Espresso – a cool toned medium brown that is my only disappointing shadow in this palette. It’s has limited colour pay off and doesn’t blend very easily, but looks lovely built up along the lash line as a softer alternative to eyeliner.

Patina – a duo chrome green bronze gold hybrid colour that is the perfect all over lid colour. It has a frost finish and is a probably best described as a light taupe with gold shimmer. It works perfectly with a bit of Espresso blended in the outer corner.

Tempting – a warm toned chocolate brown with a golden shimmer and lustre. It is probably the best lustre finish I’ve tried from MAC as it is smooth, richly pigmented and has minimal fallout.

Next on my wish list… Sable and Twinks

The Luxe Gloss

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Lévres Plump-Up – This new gloss from YSL is perfect for you if you aren’t a fan of colour – this helps lips to look plumper and fuller. Packed with a hyaluronic acid enriched formula the light and non-sticky texture provides lips with a shiny finish and delicate menthol plumping effect, without stinging or irritating sensitive lips. You only need a small amount to ensure a gorgeous finish, which dries to leave a slightly tacky sensation that’s a fraction of a traditional gloss. Although the original Glossy Stains leave a matte texture on the surface, this is a different result – almost like a gloss-balm hybrid.

Squalane oil helps reinforce the lips’ lipidic barrier, whilst hyaluronic acid delivers moisture and plumpness for supple and volumised lips. To make these effects last longer, a film-forming polymer composes a screen over the surface of the lips.

I think the formula of this gloss is fab, and would love to see a few more shades added to this range! Here’s hoping they do…

The New Makeup Releases

Today I have a roundup of new beauty items on my radar. This time of year all the best beauty launches come creeping out, beautiful colours and gorgeous new scents.

Diptyque Florabellio – New from Diptyque is the Florabellio Eau de Toilette (review here). It’s available starting this month and is a gorgeous mix of sweet, salty, apple blossom and apricot-scented osmanthus mist.

Charlotte Tilbury X Norman Parkinson – CT has teamed up with Vogue photographer, Norman Parkinson, to create a beautiful collaboration of his most renowned work on to the packaging of the make-up brand; including the Jerry Hall cover image used in Vogue’s May 1975 issue. The range includes:

A cream take on the Filmstar Bronze & Glow

Dreamy Glow powder highlighter featuring a 1959 Vogue cover of Carmen Dell’Orefice.

Creamy lip and cheek glow bearing an image of Parkinson’s wife Wenda.

Two matte lipsticks, alongside the Jerry Hall-print make-up bag.

A large wash bag/makeup bag (NEED)

The Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Collection is available from Selfridges and in July and all other Charlotte Tilbury stockists in August.

Hourglass Ambient Bronzers – Don’t these look gorgeous?! Hourglass are releasing two illuminating bronzers with Photoluminescent Technology, featuring bronze pigments that deliver a natural-looking, sunkissed glow while flaunting depth and dimension. The powders, blended by hand using an advanced miscelare technique, offer the perfect balance of pigments in a gorgeous pattern. The two shades are Radiant Bronze Light and Luminous Bronze Light.

Bobbi Brown Cheek Pallets – This spring blush palette launch is cheek-focused, encased are three coordinating shades of blush that can be layered or used alone. The centre shade can also be used as a highlighter.

Are there any new releases that have caught your eye?

April’s Wish List

Hourglass Modernist Palette in Infinity – Would you just look at that! This beautiful artist-inspired eyeshaddow palette contains a seamless colour transition of beautiful taupe and bronze shades. Each palette contains five richly pigmented shades in a range of finishes from matte to shimmer. Really I’d love to have one of each shade range… But Infinity really floats my boat.

The Shine Brush – The Wet Brush – The ultimate mane saving tool, this brush effortlessly detangles dry or wet hair without stretching or breaking. Apparently, the long ball-tipped bristles are ideal for stimulating circulation near the scalp, to better feed your follicles and encourage new growth, and… the ‘Mongolian Boar’ bristles help deliver a lustrous polish. I’m desperate for a new brush and… this is it.

Laura Mercier Silk Créme Moisturising Photo Edition Foundation – Now I’m very aware that I don’t need another foundation in my life. But I’ve read so many rave reviews about this one that it just needs to be mine. This photo-ready foundation creates a flawless, long-wearing canvas with a natural luminous finish. The photo-ready, natural luminous finish is ideal for video, photography and special events. Perfect for graduation I think!

Bobbi Brown Eye Blender Brush – This award winning brush is the top of my ‘brush’ wish list. It expertly blends all eyeshadows together, softening any harsh lines and edges. The nature of this brush means it can also be used to set concealer. Plus it may just be the softest thing that I have ever felt, I can often be found swirling it over my hands at a Bobbi Brown counter… just for the very fun of it.

Charlotte Tilbury Rock’n’Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Eye Cheat – Inspired by the ultimate, rock chick ‘bedroom eyes’, Charlotte Tilbury has created a revolutionary, no-nonsense liquid-eye pencil: it has the silky smooth glide of a liquid liner with the soft, sooty, pigment-rich result of a kohl. The Eye Cheat shade is the perfect nude eye brightener to be used in the inner waterline to widen and enliven the eyes.

Whistles Sekka Stripe Drape Top – Featuring a high collar rounded neck and sculpted arm sleeves, this asymmetric top is perfect for a standout monochrome look. I love the pattern and draping involved in this piece and would love to add it to my wardrobe. A girl can dream.

Wallis Berry Leather Shoe Boot – Please can someone tell me where I can find these boots in stock?! PLEASE. Sold out everywhere and my heart breaks a little bit each time I visit a wallis store and they aren’t there. This shoe boot has an asymmetric cut which is sexy and flattering on the foot. In mixed materials of suede and leather in this seasons must have colour berry, these shoes are a gorgeous finishing touch to an evening look. I need these in my life.

Chloe Clare Medium Leather Shoulder Bag in Marshmallow Grey – Clare Waight Keller’s signature namesake bag has had a compact makeover with this tri-tone style. Still sleek and practical, this smooth and textured navy and grey leather piece is perfect. Perfect for me.

Is there anything that you’re currently lusting after?

The New Scent

For those longing for springtime, Diptyque has launched it’s newest scent, Florabellio – a fragment of nostalgia.
Inside the time-honoured Parisian chic bottle, is an essence that houses so many layers. A primarily floral fragrance develops into a warm, musky scent with a a flavourful bite, the earthiness of which mirrors the atmospheric tableaux of Weifenbach.

This is a floral trail, blurring the perspectives between land and sea, flower and fruit, softness and bitterness… the senses are led towards far-off coastlines.

Featuring notes of sea fennel, salty sea spray ( top notes), apple blossom, osmanthus (heart notes), roasted coffee, and toasted sesame (base notes). The eau de toilette evokes a living fragrance depicting Diptyque’s Founder Christiane Gautrot’s travels, and inspired by the impressionistic nature photography of Terri Weifenbach. The scent is designed to allow a glimpse of a path that leads from the woods to the beach shore.

Florabellio has been released exclusively to SpaceNK, but will be available to buy in Selfridges, and John Lewis in May.

Happy Easter!

Trend Alert: Copper

Copper seems to be everywhere, especially when it comes to homewares. Every time I log on to Pinterest there’s more metal inspiration for me to swoon over. From copper kitchen piping being used as a feature instead of hidden away, to home decorative items, this bronze coloured metal is definitely one of the major interior looks of 2014 – and is set to get even bigger in 2015.

At first I thought copper should only really be teamed with warmer tones and whites, but then when I saw the greys and stainless steel coffee table below with a copper top, I realised it works with pretty much most things. If you want to get this trend in your home I’ve done a little collage of my favourite items below.

Take a look at some of my copper inspiration pictures too and let me know if this is something you’d try and style into your home.

Everyone’s Favourite Scent

The little Vietnamese seaside resort of Do Son is the inspiration for this sweet floral fragrance that is fresh and mysterious, warm and bright.
From the legendary French perfume house, Diptyque, Do Son is worn and adored by both women and men. This exquisite fragrance is one of my personal favourites, it’s sophisticated and sweet at the same time.

My favorite part about Do Son (other than the smell) is the description that Diptyque has on their site. It goes a little something like: “Relief from the sweltering climate, a pagoda on the shores of Ha Long Bay, where trade winds tenderly caress the flowers. A name that sings, undulating like waves upon a beach. Do Son is an eau de toilette rich with contrast, exuding the fresh, intoxicating sensuality of tuberose.”

And if that doesn’t make you at least a little intrigued about Do Son, I’m not sure what will. Pop into your nearest Diptyque and let your nose do all the work. Oh, and let me know your favorite Diptyque scents!

A Wake-Up Call

At the moment I am feeling engulfed in some kind of autumnal cold, my voice has gone and my temperature is up and down. As you can imagine I do paint a striking figure in my dressing gown, complete with red nose. It goes without saying I am currently feeling more than rubbish, and it shows in my skin – but one product I have taken pleasure in using is Origins GinZing Refreshing Face Mask.

I’m a bit of a fan of the Origins mask line-up, so I was well excited to give this a try. A clear gel formula, it’s designed to ‘refresh’, except here you leave on for 10 minutes then tissue of the excess leaving some serious glow behind. I’ve been using it in the evening as the final step of my routine as like a really intense moisturiser and wake up with a ready made dewy complexion.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Face Mask is a light, cooling gel mask that has been formulated to cool, and give dull, tired skin an extra boost before facing the day ahead. Oddly it doesn’t have the typical GinZing fragrance (citrus/orange) but rather has a fresh, almost floral scent – it is very, very mild which is what I like in a skin care product. It contains Coffee Beans to energize, Cucumber to refresh and Hoelen Mushroom to soothe.

On the skin this is very cooling – there is no need to keep it in the fridge as it always delivers an icy cool sensation on the skin. I believe the idea is that you apply this mask in the morning to revitalise and wake up the complexion for the day ahead. If you are looking for a face mask to restore dry skin this is not the one – don’t get me wrong it does hydrate but not on an intense level. This product’s powers lie in giving the skin a fresh, almost post facial glow with soothing and cooling properties.

If ever a face mask was created for the duller months it is this. It cools and calms and also perks up tired complexions.

What is not to love?
