Whistles Winter Wonderland

This year I’ve been lusting after most of the Whistles winter collection, the chunky knits, the dainty cami tops and the beautiful christmas clutch bags. But the pieces that have made it into my collection this year are simply never going to leave!

I’ve never been a jumper dress kind or girl, but these two effortless styles are definitely here for the long haul. With temperatures only just starting to drop in the UK, these are perfect teamed with tights, a pair of boots and a big fluffy scarf!

This Rib Front Cashmere Mix Dress in Pale Grey is the perfect piece to jazz up your winter wardrobe, it’s supersoft and a luxurious blend of wool and cashmere with a lovely ribbed front panel. The style has a round neck, long sleeves and a stepped hem. Team with a pair of boots, a fluffy scarf and a simple tailored coat. Gorgeous.

The other dress I’ve been loving for the past few weeks is the Ava Padded Neck Tunic Dress in Dark Grey – if you want to opt for style, comfort and warmth then this is the dress for you. An effortless, super soft knit, simply style with an oversized scarf and a pair of boots for an easy go-to daytime look. The unusual modern padded neck adds a little somethin’ extra to this dress making it perfect for the office or for a day out.

This Small Cracked Clutch in Navy is perfect for the festive party season! Add an injection of this metallic blue hue to you outfit – this premium leather clutch bag is crafted from a subtle textured cracked leather, to add depth and interest to any outfit. Featuring a zip opening, ideal to use for a small clutch in the evening, large enough to fit all your essentials.

Speaking of the party season, Whistles are totally on point with their party wear! Just look at this Cecil Sparkle Textured Cami in black – this classic cami style, with adjustable straps is reinterpreted with texture. Pair with slim, sleek tuxedo trouser or black skinny jeans for an enigmatic look. A matching skirt is also available for a full textured sparkle look!

I absolutely adore this Chay Lace Cropped Shirt in Electric Blue – Feminine and elegant, this cropped shirt is the ideal day to night piece. With exposed lace sleeves, and a subtle body underlay this is perfect for the party season too! Team with a pair of high waisted jeans and heels for ultimate glamour.

If I were a rich girl, I’d have this gorgeous Clean Longline Leather Biker in my collection, with intricate details, asymmetrical silver zips, off centre fastening and clean lines, this sophisticated take on the traditional biker is just perfect. I’ve been waiting for a long time to find a longline leather jacket, too bad it’s not within price range, for anyone! If you’re luck enough to have a similar piece in you collection then team this collarless style with a crisp white shirt and dark denim for a monochrome daytime look.

Are there any items you’ve had your eyes on for winter?

Everyone’s Favourite Scent

The little Vietnamese seaside resort of Do Son is the inspiration for this sweet floral fragrance that is fresh and mysterious, warm and bright.
From the legendary French perfume house, Diptyque, Do Son is worn and adored by both women and men. This exquisite fragrance is one of my personal favourites, it’s sophisticated and sweet at the same time.

My favorite part about Do Son (other than the smell) is the description that Diptyque has on their site. It goes a little something like: “Relief from the sweltering climate, a pagoda on the shores of Ha Long Bay, where trade winds tenderly caress the flowers. A name that sings, undulating like waves upon a beach. Do Son is an eau de toilette rich with contrast, exuding the fresh, intoxicating sensuality of tuberose.”

And if that doesn’t make you at least a little intrigued about Do Son, I’m not sure what will. Pop into your nearest Diptyque and let your nose do all the work. Oh, and let me know your favorite Diptyque scents!

A Wake-Up Call

At the moment I am feeling engulfed in some kind of autumnal cold, my voice has gone and my temperature is up and down. As you can imagine I do paint a striking figure in my dressing gown, complete with red nose. It goes without saying I am currently feeling more than rubbish, and it shows in my skin – but one product I have taken pleasure in using is Origins GinZing Refreshing Face Mask.

I’m a bit of a fan of the Origins mask line-up, so I was well excited to give this a try. A clear gel formula, it’s designed to ‘refresh’, except here you leave on for 10 minutes then tissue of the excess leaving some serious glow behind. I’ve been using it in the evening as the final step of my routine as like a really intense moisturiser and wake up with a ready made dewy complexion.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Face Mask is a light, cooling gel mask that has been formulated to cool, and give dull, tired skin an extra boost before facing the day ahead. Oddly it doesn’t have the typical GinZing fragrance (citrus/orange) but rather has a fresh, almost floral scent – it is very, very mild which is what I like in a skin care product. It contains Coffee Beans to energize, Cucumber to refresh and Hoelen Mushroom to soothe.

On the skin this is very cooling – there is no need to keep it in the fridge as it always delivers an icy cool sensation on the skin. I believe the idea is that you apply this mask in the morning to revitalise and wake up the complexion for the day ahead. If you are looking for a face mask to restore dry skin this is not the one – don’t get me wrong it does hydrate but not on an intense level. This product’s powers lie in giving the skin a fresh, almost post facial glow with soothing and cooling properties.

If ever a face mask was created for the duller months it is this. It cools and calms and also perks up tired complexions.

What is not to love?

The Rival

Here’s something I thought I’d never find… a concealer that rivals the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer! Now, apart from the fact that every time I go to purchase a tube of the aforementioned product in Vanilla it out of stock(!) there would have been no reason for me to sway from my usual routine. But one day I decided to pick up the Clarins Instant Concealer in 01 and it’s love.

This concealer is basically an extra 5 hours sleep in a bottle. Being a water based, aloe vera infused concealer means this glides into the skin giving the illusion of a second skin. Creamy but due to the high water content it doesn’t settle into fine lines. Provides a medium but buildable coverage that evens out pigmentation and dark circles without looking ashy or over illuminated (providing you choose the right colour). Caffeine extract stimulates the delicate skin to help shift toxins, reduce puffiness and give skin a revitalised freshness.

The finish is softly radiant without being illuminating so you won’t get any flash back or panda eyes!

What Clarins say: This beauty product takes a three-pronged approach to disguising dark circles – the colouring correcting pigments illuminate, the aloe vera extract soothes and caffeine helps to stimulate circulation and de-puff.

For me, this has been a permanent fixture in my make-up bags since I got my hands on it. It hits the mark with all three promises and provides long-lasting, hydrating coverage without drying eyes out.

I keep calling this Clarins Creamy Concealer by mistake for the simple reason that this is one of the creamiest, smoothest textures I’ve felt in terms of concealers, it really holds it’s own against the NARS offering. You need less than a pea size for both eyes, and I’ve also been using this to disguise blemishes.

It’s rare that you find a concealer that camouflages the under eye area without going cakey after hours of wear, but Clarins manages to stay in place and excel at disguising blemishes and dark circles.

The down side is that this is only available in three shades – which is a shame. Each colour has a peach undertone. The peach tone counteracts the grey/blue undertones of dark circles. The three tones they do have however are really great at bouncing the light off of dark circles and give a beautiful silky, smooth finish under and around the eye.

Fallen off the track…

After a rather long absence I’ve mustered up enough creativity (and energy) to tell you about a product that I’ve been absolutely loving recently. It comes from Estee Lauder in the form of their Supreme Revitalizing CC Cream – this sits within Estee Lauder’s anti-ageing line Revitalizing Supreme and promises to even out the complexion, deeply hydrate and pack a serious anti-ageing punch. It offers all the benefits of the anti-ageing Supreme Revitalizing cream which works on lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness, dullness and dehydration, plus Colour Correction (CC) using micro-pigments that adapt to your skin tone.

The CC Cream comes out grey and when you blend it in to the skin the micro pigments activate and the colour adapts to your skin tone delivering a lovely, light and glowy coverage that really enhances the overall look of your complexion. Pumped with Hyaluronic Acid, SPF 10 and a formula that leaves the skin moisturised, but comfortably so, I’ve been using this as the last step in my morning skincare routine, straight after serum.

I absolutely love the finish. On good skin days I would use this alone and if I needed more coverage it would make the perfect primer for foundation and I’d need only the lightest touch to thoroughly perfect the appearance of my skin. And all the while Estee Lauder’s Revitalizing Supreme anti-ageing ingredients are doing their work!

It is an instant hit with me. I love the look and the feel is so nice – really comforting, hydrating and plumping – with all the skincare benefits I could possibly need.

The downside? The price. At £40 a tube it’s not exactly purse-friendly and I have to admit that I don’t think it’s going to last me long either.

A CC love? Who’d have thought it.
