The Beauty Bag – August

It’s August. It’s hot. And ‘when is the summer going to arrive?’ complaints have well and truly come to a halt. It’s here, we’re melting. And I have to say that this month’s beauty bag was a bit of a head scratcher – makeup has taken a real back seat for me recently and the less is more approach (or just nothing) is my current mantra. However there are a few products that I’ll be adding into my cosmetics cycle for the final bout of heat…

The Glow GiverJouer Luminizing Moisture Tint in Golden – Sheeny in all the right places and superbly blendable, it applies like skin with a built-in highlighter popping out cheekbones, cupids bow and brow bones, with enough coverage to ease up concealer use. I find this works well with my normal to slightly oily complexion. Wear time is good, your standard eight hours or so before a touch-up is needed and although I don’t tend to wear it with powder – perfect for the summer with a quick dust of powder on the T-zone to avoid complete shimmer-central.

The ‘Covers Everything’ Eye PaletteBobbi Brown Surf and Sand Eyeshadow Palette – These eight neutral shades blend beautifully and mimic the shimmering texture of sandy beaches. It’s the perfect day-to-night palette with a range from soft nude to deep, rich browns and perfect for the summer nights.

The FixerClarins Fix Makeup – Setting sprays all over the world… watch out. This one tops the charts: Not too moist, a nice spray circumference and it helps to eek out my makeup for that little bit longer without a dust of powder in sight. None of this midday makeup sliding nonsense, this stuff helps things to stay put.

The Holiday BaseYSL Teint Touche Elcat Foundation in B40 – Over recent weeks I’ve fallen back in love with stuff. Light, but glowy, covering but not cakey. The key with this texture is to layer up – one pump for a tinted moisturiser-esque finish, two pumps for a coverage that will blend in rosy cheeks and three if you’re really having trouble. It’s not the most long-lasting, but coupled up with the aforementioned fixing product going into the beauty bag and the fact it’s undetectable under direct sun scrutiny, it makes the cut.

The ‘Go To’ LipSoap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick 3D Super Colour Volume Lip Shine in Nudist – This super-light, ultra-hydrating lip crayon glides effortlessly onto lips, leaving behind an umissably pretty sweep of creamy, moisture-rich colour & shine. The shade is a ‘my lips but better’ shade but offers a bit more gloss – a perfect, moisturising shade for those hot summer days.

The SPFKiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defence SPF 50 – Necessary always, but for this time of year… even more so. Although it’s SPF 50, this stuff doesn’t conform to your high factor nightmares. In fact blind-tested against others I don’t think I’d be able to detect a difference. It’s a little richer perhaps, but still skins in, does the job and foundation acts like its usual self on top of it. When the serious rays come out to play this is what I’ll be reaching for. A great August beauty bag staple.

The Waterproof Duo – When things start to get hot there’s nothing better than rocking the bronzed beach babe look. For that I suggest investing in a good waterproof bronzer like the Superficial Waterproof Bronzer from Hourglass – An extended-wear, waterproof bronzer that withstands high humidity and extreme moisture, it blends seamlessly onto skin to create a natural bronze colour. Team it with another waterproof wonder, the…

DIOR Diorshow Iconic Extreme Waterproof Mascara in Chestnut. It’s so hard to find a good brown waterproof mascara, but I think I’ve finally done it – the compound at the heart of this waterproof formula brings weightlessness to the lashes thanks to its thickening, extra–hold latex polymers.

Here’s to a fabulous August!
