SPF for Hair

Following on from my SPF edit I thought I’d introduce another sun savvy post detailing the things I reach for when protecting my hair in the sun. It’s important to look after your hair on holiday, especially if you’re in and out of the pool/sea a lot – hair can become dry and brittle, making it prone to breakages – which doesn’t look so great. So let’s match the mane with the tan to get you looking thoroughly gorgeous on holiday…

Kerastase Soleil Micro Voile Protecteur – Along with safeguarding your hair from sun damage, this spray also ensures you of smooth, shiny, and soft locks. The bonus point – it protects hair color from fading out too. Infused with micro diffused UV defense particles, the product offers guaranteed protection for the hair and keeps it hydrated. It is suitable for all hair types and offers special care for you colored, dry, damaged and frizzy haired girls.

Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil – The name says it all. This lightweight, water-resistant Hair Veil acts as an invisible screen, shielding the hair from the otherwise sun prone damages. A 100% non-greasy formula, it renders complete sun protection for up to fourteen hours. Ideal for both UVA and UVB protection, this product comes packed with a blend of moisturizing oils, which helps you to detangle and condition your hair without feeling greasy. In short, this is a one-stop shop for all those hair needs!

Aveda Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser – Wash your hair on holiday with this Aveda cleanser to maintain your colour, while gently removing chlorine, salt and product build-up whilst helping to maintain moisture balance. This is part of a three-part defence and recovery system with the above and below products – all of which have a light tropical aroma blend with 100% certified organic essences of neroli, ylang ylang and wild-crafted cistus – beautiful.

Aveda After Sun Hair Masque – An intensive cream masque that restores sun-exposed hair, moisturises, and helps defend against free radicals. I really like this product. You do need quite a lot but it really does work. I leave it on for about 5-10 mins and it really helps nourish the hair post tanning.

Phyto Phytoplage L’originale Protective Sun Oil – This little beauty strengthens and repairs hair that has been weakened by sun exposure, chlorine, wind and salt. This luxurious oil imparts shine while protecting hair against damaging sun, salt and chlorine. It nourishes and moistures so hair becomes soft and supple. Preserves colour radiance with a natural UV filter.

Kiehl’s Color-Protect Shine Infusing Hair Oil Treatment – For all you lazy gals, listen up: Kiehl’s has created a leave-in oil treatment that not only protects with SPF 10, but keeps tresses looking lush and breakage-free. The sunflower seed oil is rich in antioxidants, giving hair some much-needed moisture, and the apricot kernel oil is full of fatty acids, which restore shine and nourishment. Whether you’re taking precautionary measures, or need to right some wrongs, just spray this bad boy while you’re hair is still damp and continue styling as you normally would. Easy!

Stay tuned for the third instalment of the sun care edit tomorrow… Aftercare I’m looking at you!
