What I Love This Week (6)

NEXT’s Trouser Offerings – These past two weeks I may or may not have purchased 3 pairs of trousers from Next. Don’t judge. One being a pair of jeans (!) which is definitely unexpected, but I love them! The other two are versions of Harem pants which are usually drop crotch and incredibly unflattering, but not these… they clinch in at the waist and hug your bum whilst remaining loose around the legs, therefore not making you resemble MC Hammer. Win.

These trousers are the two comfiest pairs of trousers I own, even comfier than leggings, they offer a bit more modesty, are never see through, and keep their shape. My first purchase of the two was this patterned pair which have flecks of blue through and are ideal for summery days paired with a light cami top or t-shirt. These then sparked the purchase of the black pair which I envisage being my staple trouser option over leggings now. Mother will be happy!

As for the jeans, they’re a relaxed skinny fit which I find entirely more flattering than the skin tight spray on options that are floating around at the moment – they’re not stretchy, so they dont go baggy and loose their shape, and they have nice roll ups at the bottom to make them look a bit more summery. NEXT, top marks.

Please note: I did receive a voucher for my birthday. Purchase justification right there!

Lemon Drizzle Cake – In particular it’s Mary Berrys recepie, kudos to Anna for the lovely video that brought this cake into my life because it’s delicious! The best part is that it isn’t drizzly, it’s crunchy but moist and just utterly yummy. I would definitely advise you to give this recipe a go, whatever the occasion, or for no occasion at all! A slice of this with a cup of earl grey tea equals utter perfection!

ASOS – I’ve found some absolute jems this month, let alone this week from this online retailer. One of which has been my black sandals – let’s just say that these haven’t left my feet since their arrival last week. Another two finds have been in the form of dresses, of which a run down can be found in yesterdays post RE: Wimbledon. One black, one white: nothing out of the ordinary here but they’re both lovely, flattering and perfect for the recent weather we’ve been having. Which leads me to…

The Weather – I wouldn’t have thought this would make an appearence in my weekly run down, but the weather has been seriously good this week. Highs of 26 degrees have been reached and rain has been to a minimum. Perfect for back garden BBQ’s and summer drinks by the river.

Same time next week?

Wimbledon Wears

Im heading off to Wimbledon on Saturday night with the boy to join ‘The Queue’ for the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament tickets, and I’m so excited.

The 2014 Wimbledon Championships is a tennis tournament that is played on outdoor grass courts, it is the 128th edition of the Wimbledon Championships and the third Grand Slam event of the year. The boy is an avid tennis fan, and goes to Wimbledon nearly every year, so this time I can’t wait to join in with the fun and embrace the british tradition that is Wimbledon.

True to form, I’ve even planned my outfits for the two days.

Saturday night – Arrive late and set up camp!

Sunday –  Spend the day in ‘The Queue’ queuing  for tickets…

This calls for comfort, in the form of a LBD – this ASOS Skater dress with Wrap front is made from a lightweight stretch fabric and was a bargain at £25, great for the warmer weather we’ve been having, but also good for if it turns a bit cold. Paired with my & Other Stories Sunglasses and ASOS leather flat sandals this is a perfect lounge around outfit in fitting with the occasion.

To jazz this up a bit, I’ll be opting for an orangey peach lip courtesy of NARS Satin Lipstick in Casablanca.

Monday – Spend the day watching tennis and eating strawberries…

This is the day of the tennis we’ve queued up to get tickets for. Now I know many people will go a bit more casual, but my fashion sense is kind of far from casual. I like to dress up, and look sophisticated… so I’ll be opting for this T-Shirt Dress with Sheer Sleeve and Tuck Detail from ASOS teamed with my ZARA Long Blazer, ASOS Red Leather Flat Shoes, & Other Stopes glasses and the NARS lipstick again. Keeping the accessories simple.

I’m really looking forward to going to Wimbledon as it’s my first time attending the tournament, and experiencing ‘the queue‘ – pictures to follow!

The Birthday Edit

The Make-Up – OSKIA Get Up and Glow, NARS Sheer Glow in Santa Fe, MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW20, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light, Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder and Celestial Powder, NARS Multiple in Maui on lips and cheeks, MAC Eyeshadow in Espresso and brown liquid liner, L’Oreal Volume Million in Brown.

The ClothesTopshop Oversized Casual V Front Tunic with Zara Shorts and Asos Sandals.

The Plans – Breakfast in bed followed by an intense pamper session and present opening, and a family BBQ.

The Presents – To name a few of the things I was so generously given for my birthday: Classic Tortoiseshell Sunglasses from & Other Stories, Printed Trousers from ZARA, Tortoiseshell Phone Case from Casemate, Dogeared Gold Balance Square Bar Necklace, All Saints Top, ZARA Navy Crepe Blazer, Whistles Vouchers, ZARA Vouchers, Selfridges Vouchers and so much more. All of which I am incredibly grateful and thankful for.

The Verdict – I had the most amazing day celebrating and relaxing with my family and friends, something of which should happen more often. There were laughs, drinks and lots of yummy food, with a handful of giggling children thrown into the mix for good measure. I almost can’t wait for next year already!

Get The Glow

It’s time for all other glow-inducing products in town to bow down because there’s a new skin perfecting dewifying trio in town.

OSKIA Get Up & Glow – This is the first step to achieving a fabulous glow! A lightweight revitalising and energising serum that brightens and enlivens skin. The serum has a pearlescent appearance and looks stunning on the skin. It’s hard to describe, but this is a definite staple in my everyday makeup routine now which means it’s got to be good.

If this is a bit too pricey for you then try the…

DIOR Glow Maximizer Light Boosting Primer – This little tube houses the most luminous looking liquid I’ve ever seen, it claims to brighten the complexion and create a radiance-enhanced base for the rest of your makeup menu. The pearl liquid creates a luminous finish that foundations sit beautifully on top of or get mixed in with for an oomph-ed up finish. Beautiful.

NARS Sheer Glow –  This stuff vanishes into the skin tocreate a really, really flawless looking complexion. It lasts well, and the shade Santa Fe is a perfect match for me and it just looks natural, letting my natural sheen peek through amping up the glow, while keeping the coverage in place. A glowing, natural radiant finish foundation that evens skin tone and brings the glow.

A glowing look is perfect for the summer and looks good on everyone. If you’re giving the glow a go, try these three to start the ball rolling.

Food Findings

We’re hosting a BBQ on Sunday for my birthday and as a result, I’ve been trawling the internet for some tasty foodie things I can make to excite the guests.

Here is a compiled list of all of my favourite places to look for exciting new recipes to engage the tastebuds… *warning: do not visit websites when hungry*

Spoon Fork Bacon – Photographer Teri Lyn Fisher and Le Cordon Bleu graduate, Jenny Park offer up lots of interesting recipes, drinks and pretty pictures. I particularly like the looks of the Coconut Milk Marinated Lamb Kabob recipe and these Shrimp Toast Nuggets look seriously yummy. P.S. check the drinks section out too… very tempting!

Smitten Kitchen – Deb briefly describes her blog as as featuring fearless cooking from a tiny kitchen in New York City. I love it! And I love her recipes, this one, this one and this one are exceedingly yummy.

Minimalist Baker – John and Dana are the ultimate dream time, cooking up recipes that require just 10 ingredients or less (sometimes 7), one bowl, or 30 minutes or less to prepare. Perfect.
Have a look at this, this and this to get you started. Delicious.

Mum and I banged our heads together and have decided to make mini slider burgers with cheese, caramelised onions and guacamole as well as grilling some salmon and having a mix of salads on offer. Plus a little spread of nibbles to accompany it all. Hopefully I’ll take some snaps so I can show you next week!

OSKIA Offerings

Recently I received a jam packed little package from OSKIA which was just fabulous. So for that I am offering up my reviews on them all for you to enjoy…

Renaissance Cleansing Gel – Illuminating witamin and pumpkin enzyme facial cleanser. With Vitamins A, C & E, Omega 6, Starflower Oil, Pumpkin Enzymes, Chamomile & Rose. And… Suitable for all skin types, particularly combination, normal, dull or dry.

When warmed in the palms this rosey smelling gel melts into an oily texture that feels pretty darn good when massaged all over my face every morning. I use a hot cloth to remove the balm – which leaves a light residue behind, giving me a nice healthy glow. It uses a combination of exfoliating and restorative agents which help to soothe the face, eliminating redness. It can be used both AM and PM, but I prefer something a little heavier at night, so this is reserved for morning use. It packs a hefty price tag but don’t worry… this is a never ending bottle! And it’s my favourite too… shhh.

Restoration Oil – Think ‘Replenish, Restore, Rejuvinate’ and you’ve got this in one. A beautiful, delicate blend of nutrients, floral oils & extracts to help restore the skin’s youthful vitality. Made with high tech natural actives and oils, fromAfrican Acmella, Lupin, Sea Fennel, Heart Seed Vine, Turmeric, Starflower & Evening Primrose, help firm, hydrate and replenish, improving elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines for a healthy, radiant complexion.Ideal for all skin types. And absolutely no mineral oil!

Renaissance Mask – A nutri-active radiance, brightening & resurfacing mask with major anti-ageing benefits to reveal a brighter, fresher looking skin. With MSM, Passionfruit, Grape, Lemon & Grapefruit AHA’s, Papaya Enzymes, Swiss Garden Cress Liposomes, Ribose & Butterbur.

Enriched with natural Fruit Acids (AHA’s) including Passion Fruit, Lemon, Grape and Pineapple which have been included to exfoliate the skin on a molecular level. It does so by gently unbinding cells in the top layer of the epidermis to activate renewal. The mask also contains Papaya Enzymes to cleanse the skin thoroughly remove excess and tired skin cells and to clear congested pores all the while being gentle. The Renaissance Mask is also infused with Lactic Acid which reduces the appearance of fine lines and softens the skin whilst Swiss Garden Cress Liposomes leave the complexion perfectly balances, even and bright by reducing melanin production. Pretty impressive hey?

After use my skin was instantly brighter, soft to the touch yet cleansed deep down. Lets not forget glowing too.

Get Up & Glow – Marked as a radiance, energy and protection booster for a brighter complexion. With Vitamin E, Minerals: MSM & Zinc, Ribose, Butterbur, Swiss Apple Stem Cells, Hyaluronic Acid, Milk Peptides.

A fabulously lightweight revitalising & energising serum that increases cell respiration and ATP energy to brighten & enliven skin. OSKIA’s unique dual approach actively brightens and firms, evens skin tone, smoothes the appearance of fine lines, protects against everyday environmental, seasonal and lifestyle damage, while also improving cell health. It goes perfectly underneath moisturiser as a serum or even better… try it patted over makeup to perk up & brighten skin.

Nutri-Active Day Cream – Now this one ‘hydrates, repairs and protects’ the skin. With Vitamins: A, B2, B3 (Niacinamide), C, D, E, F & P, Milk Peptides, Prebiotics, Omegas-3 & 6, Swiss Apple Stem Cells, Hyaluronic Acid, Minerals: MSM, Manganese, Magnesium, Copper, Zinc, Selenium, Calcium.

This is an advanced lightweight anti-ageing multi-active day cream that not only provides long lasting hydration and essential nutrients to improve cell health and efficiency, but is formulated to smooth out and help prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, revitalize and repair, encourage healthy collagen production and protect DNA. Perfect.

Have you tried anything from OSKIA? This definitely is the cream of the crop.

Beauty: What to Wear?

As my 20th birthday is coming up this weekend Mum clubbed together with the rest of my family to organise a little Birthday BBQ get together in celebration. I’m really looking forward to it! Even though the majority of my family lives quite close, I don’t always get to see a lot of them. So this Sunday we’re all getting together to have a good ol’ catch up and I can’t wait!

Which gives me the perfect excuse to pull out the big guns and the fancy makeup and get planning what’s going to be on my face!

Now for the majority of my makeup I’m looking at this line up –

Primer – Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

Foundation – Either Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 4 or NARS Sheer Glow in Santa Fe

Powder – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light

Bronzer – Either Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in 03 Brunettes or Aerin Bronze Illuminating Powder in 01

Blusher – NARS Blusher in Zen

Contour and Highlight – Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder and Celestial Powder in Candlelight

Mascara – Le Volume De Chanel in Khaki Bronze

Brows – Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil

But for each outfit from yesterdays post, I’m thinking about different makeup looks, and for that… I’m looking at this line up –

OUTFIT 1 – Illamasqua Precision Ink in Havoc and MAC Patisserie

For outfit one, I’m teaming a feline flick with a slick of MAC Patisserie. Such a bold eye look will go perfectly with the relaxed feel of the first proposed outfit and this offering from Illamasqua is long lasting and easy to use.

OUTFIT 2 – Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder, Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Shadow Stick in Bark and NARS Niagara

Outfit two is a bit more dressy, but plain and simple at the same time, which calls for the addition of a coral-pink lip to brighten things up – enter NARS Niagara, this is a recent favourite of mine and lasts for hours! Paired with a wash of KA sculpting powder over my lids smudge of brown along the top lash line and with lashings of mascara this look will look polished and complete.

OUTFIT 3 – Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder, L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe and MAC Naked Bud

This slouchy relaxed look calls for something a bit more girly, and for that I’m calling on the KA sculpting powder to add definition to the sockets and the LI shadow in Bronzed Taupe to add a bit of sparkle and colour to the outer corners – the ultimate combination. With a slick of MAC Naked Bud to seal the deal this look is one of my favourites.

OUTFIT 4 – By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection and Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Brownie

My favourite outfit option deserves a makeup look to shout about, and for this an Olsen-esque liner look is called for with the help of BT Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection which is just that… perfection. This look requires a bit more oomph in the lip department, so I’m thinking the BB lipstick in Brownie would do the trick.

What do you think? Which look do you think is best?

What To Wear?

As my 20th birthday is coming up this weekend Mum clubbed together with the rest of my family to organise a little Birthday BBQ get together in celebration. I’m really looking forward to it! Even though the majority of my family lives quite close, I don’t always get to see a lot of them. So this Sunday we’re all getting together to have a good ol’ catch up and I can’t wait!

Everybody loves a good birthday bash, and I more than anyone, love to dress up nicely for the occasion. Which is where you all come in… Here’s a compilation of 4 outfit options for this ‘british summer’ we’ve having at the moment, what do you think?

OUTFIT 1
Topshop Black Strappy V-Neck Cami – £18; Zara Printed Pajama Style Trousers – £39.99; ASOS Footloose Leather Flat Sandals – £18

I particularly like the trousers with this outfit. It’s not often I stray from my Topshop black Leigh Jeans but these caught my eye one day whilst browsing the ZARA site and I’ve never looked back – they’re relaxed and understated whilst being cool and comfortable for when the weather warms up. Paired with a staple black cami from topshop (which really are staples in my wardrobe, please don’t tell any one I have 6 colours!) which when tucked in makes the outfit look a bit more dressy which I like! I struggled to pick shoes for this one, but thought to play it safe with these black sandals from ASOS which were a bargain and go with absolutely everything!

OUTFIT 2
ZARA Double Layer Strappy Top in Off-White – £29.99; Topshop MOTO Black Low Rise Leigh Jeans – £38; ZARA Leather Sandal with Block Heel and Wide Straps – £79.99

Just look at those shoes! I’ve lusted after these Zara leather sandals for too long, and they’re everything I imagined and more – comfortable, stylish and leg lengthening. This fairly simple outfit is amped up with the addition of these heeled sandals and a beautiful double layered cami from Zara which is just gorgeous for the ‘warmer’ weather.

OUTFIT 3
ZARA Linen Top with Back Buttons – £29.99; ZARA Mid Rise Denim Jeans – £25.99; ZARA Leather Sandals with Studs – £39.99

A slightly more casual outfit than the rest, but worthy of consideration none-the-less. After all, this is a family BBQ. These jeans are the comfiest things I’ve ever worn and look great paired with just about anything. This top from Zara has me written al over it! It’s lightweight and relaxed, but remains elegant with buttons all down the back, a perfect way to add a light summer fabric into the mix.

Please note: These shoes. Oh. My. Gosh. I love them! And I’ve never been more shocked. I’m not a ‘gurney’ girl. I’m well and truly girly and proud, but these leather sandals with studs captured my heart, they toughen up an otherwise relaxed outfit and look gorgeous too!

OUTFIT 4

ZARA Printed Blouse – £25.99; Topshop MOTO White Leigh Jeans – £38; ASH Jalouse Taupe Suede Ankle Boots – £77.50

I love this one. This to me is the ultimate summer outfit. Light, bright and feminine. This zara top is an absolute favourite of mine, it’s sheer and delicate and has a buttoned up back. The print and colour is on point too. Paired with those white leigh jeans the outfit looks summer ready. But don’t be fooled, I’ve added the ASH boots to bring it back to within my comfort zone.

So what do you think? Which one’s your favourite?

Expect a similar sort of make-up focused post tomorrow. Watch out.. It’s a good’un. If I do say so myself!

Stick With It

There’s a new craze in town – the eye shadow stick. Now I know they’ve been around for a while now, but in my house, they’ve been getting some serious love this month. The two in question are: By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection and the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Bark.

These two are the new killer duo and both work equally as well on their own as they do when they’re paired together.

By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection –

Swept over the lid, and quickly blended out you can achieve a sheer shimmer-tinted wash of deep bronzy taupe, but drawn on with just a bit of smudging in the corners and leaving the rest of the lid untouched it sets to a more opaque finish. On first application it’s beautiful, but the selling point here is its lasting power – this stuff really sticks around, come rain or shine. I prefer this as a smokey liner, Olsen style.

I’m planning my Ombre Blackstar mark II purchase and it’s currently between Misty Rock and Bronze Moon.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Bark –

A rich brown that is a perfect liner shade for a brown lover like myself. This is my go to product for an amped up eye look, applied with a MAC 239 it creates the ultimate smudged liner look that I love. This do-it-all formula glides on tug-free and can be used to shade, define, smoke up and highlight the eyes. Just like the By Terry offering, the longevity is something to shout about! They last up to 8 hours without creasing, flaking or fading. Perfect. Just swipe on and go!

For a budget buy, why not try the Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon in No.2 Brown? It’s a jumbo sized pencil with an extra soft formulation and a thicker application style to help achieve a gorgeous smokey eyeliner look. The colour is out-of-this-world gorgeous and has a subtle bronze shimmer running through it, and for £3.99… you can’t go wrong!

Golden Eye Edit

From Day-to-Day

Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in No. 22 Pale Barley – This is a complex, hard to describe shade that seems to look different on everyone. On me, it’s a light to medium, warm brown that pulls slightly golden, with a lovely sheen and very, very fine iridescent shimmer which is almost imperceptible.

The formula is something to shout about – smooth, creamy, buttery, silky. Everything you’ve come to expect from a Burberry eyeshadow. It has incredible colour payoff and is fully opaque in just one sweep. The perfect subtle shadow for daily golden sheen. This was a tricky one to find, but it’s well worth the search.

From Day-to-Night
MAC Mulch – My go to shade, a one wash wonder if you will. It’s a medium-dark, red toned brown with a golden warm undertone. The pearly finish can be blended out to a subtle sheen and it’s a beauty. A similar colour can be found with the MAC Paint Pot in Eclair and MAC Lie Low.

This is one of my favourite eyeshadows as it intensifies my green peepers and adds a little somethin’ somethin’ to any outfit.

All Night Long…
NARS Kalahari Duo – marked as a Gold confection and a Sugared cocoa, these two are beautiful. Kalahari appears in one of my favourite palettes ‘And God Created the Woman’ and here is where my love affair began. Swept all over the lid this shadow imparts a subtle shimmer and a warm hue, but packed on with a flat brush and buffed out – this can create a show stopping bronzed smokey eye like no other. Top marks.

The tiny palette is composed of one bright yet old bronze shade that is not all that dissimilar from MAC Woodwinked and the other segment is a cool toned taupe that it equally as beautiful. This will take you all through the night with a show-stopping gold wash that won’t disappoint.

Have you got any more golden shadow suggestions? I love a good enabler!
